The Missouri Department of Transportation has begun work to replace the existing MO Route 7 bridge over Interstate 49 and to re-configure the interchange.
Below you will find additional information about the project and details about various road closures and detours associated with the project.
The bridge structure has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced. The interchange is being re-configured to a (split) Diverging Diamond Interchange to better accommodate existing and future traffic demands.
The project is currently scheduled for May 2023 letting and construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2023. It's currently estimated to cost approximately $9.8 million.
No right-of-way acquisition will be needed for this project.

Traffic Impacts
In order to keep I-49 and MO 7 open to traffic during construction, the project will be done in phases. A short term closure of I-49 and MO 7 with a signed detours will be used to remove the existing bridge. Minimal impacts are expected.
Here are closure dates that we are currently aware of.
Lane closures scheduled for MO-7, Sept. 14 – Oct. 13
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will move into the second phase of construction and will make the following closures for pavement construction.
Beginning Thursday, Sept. 14 through Friday, Oct. 13
• The center and right turn lanes on the southbound I-49 exit ramp to MO-7 will be closed for ramp pavement construction.
• MO-7 (SB and NB)/275th Street (EB and WB) will be reduced to one lane in each direction for pavement construction.
SB and NB I-49 may have intermittent lane closures in the following areas between the following times for construction on the project:
• SB I-49 from Commercial Street to just past MO-7 could have intermittent closures from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily
• NB I-49 from north of 307th Street to just past MO-7 could have intermittent closures from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily
Road closure scheduled for bridge deck work in Cass County, Sept. 18-Nov. 28
Crews will close the I-49 outer road (Rock Haven Rd.), in both directions, from just south of Overpass Road to just past Indian Springs Road from approximately 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18 until 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28. This closure is for bridge deck work on the bridge over the East Fork East Branch South Grand River. All work is weather dependent. Motorists may experience delays in the area.
Lane closures scheduled for MO-7, Sept. 5-15
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will make the following closures for temporary pavement construction.
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Friday, Sept. 15
• Crews will close the right lane of SB MO-7 just before entering and exiting the project area on the bridge.
• Crews will close one of the left turn lanes on the exit ramp from SB I-49 to SB MO-7.
Road closure scheduled for bridge demolition and reconstruction in Cass County, Aug. 9 - Nov. 17
Crews will close the I-49 outer road (Peculiar Drive) in both directions from just south of 237th street to just past the bridge over the East Branch South Grand River for demolition and reconstruction of the bridge. This closure will be in place from approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8 until 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17. All work is weather dependent. Motorists may experience delays in the area.
Overnight ramp closure scheduled for MO-7 to NB I-49, Sept. 5-6
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will make the following closure for concrete paving: Beginning Tuesday, September 5, through Wednesday, September 6, crews will close the ramp from MO-7 to northbound I-49 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., each night.
Lane closure scheduled for WB 275th Street (NB MO-7), Sept. 5.
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will make the following closure to set bridge girders. This is a continuation of the work scheduled for August 31. Beginning at approximately 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, the westbound lane of 275th Street (NB MO-7) will be CLOSED just past the ramp to NB I-49 to set bridge girders.
*Detour Information: Traffic heading NB MO-7 wanting to access SB I-49 or wanting to continue on 275th Street must take the ramp from NB I-49 to Commercial Street and then back to SB I-49.
Overnight ramp closure scheduled for MO-7 to NB I-49, Aug. 28-31
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will make the following closure for concrete paving: Beginning Monday, Aug. 28 through Thursday, Aug. 31, crews will close the ramp from MO-7 to northbound I-49 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., overnight, Aug. 28-31.
Lane closure scheduled for WB 275th Street (NB MO-7), Aug. 31
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will make the following closure to set bridge girders: Beginning at approximately 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, the westbound lane of 275th Street (NB MO-7) will be CLOSED just past the ramp to NB I-49 to set bridge girders.
*Detour Information: Traffic heading NB MO-7 wanting to access SB I-49 or wanting to continue on 275th Street must take the ramp from NB I-49 to Commercial Street and then back to SB I-49.
Intermittent lane closures scheduled for SB I-49 from Commercial Street to just past MO-7, Aug. 7-25
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will make intermittent left lane closures on SB I-49 from Commercial Street to just past MO-7 for bridge work in the median. These intermittent lane closures are expected from approximately 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., Aug. 7-25.
Overnight closure scheduled for ramp from MO-7 to NB I-49, Aug. 10-11
Crews working on the bridge replacement and intersection improvement project on MO-7 South over I-49 will make the following overnight closure: Beginning at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 to 3 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, crews will CLOSE the ramp from MO-7 to NB I-49 for overhead sign truss removal.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
