On Tuesday, July 6, the Harrisonville Board of Aldermen approved a contract between the City and WCA of Missouri LLC. – part of Green For Life Environmental Inc. for solid waste hauling services.
The contract will officially take effect on August 1, 2021.
This move follows a decision from the Board on June 21, 2021, to terminate the current contract with Municipal Waste Services, also effective on August 1.
With this new contract in place, there are some things we want you to know.
First and foremost – While we do understand that several years ago, the City had used WCA for trash services and did encounter some issues, we are confident that these large-scale issues have been corrected, as a new management team is in place and has been for some time now and as WCA were recently purchased by Green For Life Environmental Inc.
Second - Currently, Harrisonville residents pay $14.80 per month for solid waste hauling. As we move to WCA/GFL, the price will increase slightly, moving to $16.25 per month, but still keeps Harrisonville as one of the lower rates in the area.
- Pleasant Hill - $20.95 per month
- Belton - $15.61 per month (no recycle included)
- Raymore - $19.65 per month
- Greenwood - $18 per month
- Lee's Summit - 31.50 per month
In the coming weeks, WCA/GFL will be ordering new trash and recycle carts for each resident, examining any necessary collection-route changes and preparing very detailed communications for all City residents.
Before WCA/GFL begins, each home will receive a letter from the company providing very specific information about what day that resident’s trash will be picked up, where they need to place their carts, what items are allowed to be recycled, when yard waste will be collected, the process for getting bulky items picked up, the possibility of getting a second trash cart, etc.
The City will also be sharing this information, and any other important details, on our website – www.harrisonville.com – once we receive it.
Regarding the Municipal Waste Services carts that residents currently have, MWS will be in charge of collecting those once their contract has ended.
