The City of Harrisonville is preparing for another municipal election, in which four Board of Aldermen positions will be decided.
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, the Harrisonville City Clerk’s Office will begin accepting filings for the April 7, 2020 election. Filings will be accepted at City Hall, located at 300 E Pearl Street, during regular business hours, until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.
One aldermen seat for each of Harrisonville's four Wards will be on the April 7, ballot. Each aldermen position will hold a four-year term.
During the September 16 meeting, the Board of Aldermen voted to change the policy for municipal candidate election filing. In accordance with the change, the names of candidates who file between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 a.m. on December 17, will be listed on the ballot in an order determined by random drawing.
On the first day of filing, each candidate may draw a number at random. If the candidate declines or fails to draw a number, the City Clerk will draw a number at random. The number drawn will be recorded by the clerk and noted on the Declaration of Candidacy form. The names of candidates who file on the first day of filing will be listed on the ballot in ascending order of the numbers drawn. For example, the candidate who draws the lowest number will be listed first on the ballot.
The names of candidates who file after 5 p.m. on December 17, will be listed on the ballot in the sequential order in which they submit their Declaration of Candidacy.
Candidates who are unable to complete their paperwork will forfeit their candidate number.
Please contact City Clerk Randall K. Jones (816) 390-8916 with any questions about filing for election to the Harrisonville Board of Aldermen.
