2019 Asphalt and Slurry Seal programs scheduled for first week in August

The City of Harrisonville is excited to announce that the Street Department’s 2019 Asphalt and Slurry Seal Programs will soon begin.

At a bid opening in March, Phillips Paving Company won the bid for the asphalt project. At that same bid opening, Vance Brothers won the bid for the slurry seal project.

Originally, both projects were scheduled to begin in early June but, due to the heavy amounts of rain that fell in Harrisonville, and the surrounding area, during the month of May, the projects have been rescheduled.

The soggy conditions are not ideal for either project, so the new dates will hopefully give contractors an opportunity to work in more ideal conditions. The 2019 Asphalt program was scheduled to begin on June 1, and has been rescheduled to begin in the first and second weeks of August. The 2019 Slurry Seal program was scheduled to begin on June 6, and will now follow the same timeline.

Crews plan to start milling existing asphalt on S Halsey Avenue from South Street to Brairwood on Aug 1-2, and paving to start on Aug 7-8, to have the least disruption to school activities. Other streets to be milled and resurfaced with a 2-inch asphalt overlay in order of work are: S Edgevale Drive from South Street to Oakwood Street, Edgevale Terrace, from Eastwood Road to James Street, N Halsey Avenue from Mechanic Street to Elm Street, Industrial Boulevard from Locust Street, south one block and Plaza Drive.

During the projects, several streets throughout town will have their asphalt repaired or have slurry seal put in. Each of these projects will work to improve the current conditions of Harrisonville roads and prevent moisture from getting under the streets and creating cracks or holes.

Roads will be closed to thru traffic during the project but local traffic will still be able to pass by.

Residents living in areas where work will be done will be notified before crews begin working in their neighborhood.

Residents with special requests are asked to present them to the contractor. Those with concerns may call Streets Department Superintendent Rodney Jacobs (816) 380-8951.

Maps of the areas where work will be done are available. To view the 2019 Asphalt and Slurry Seal Project map, click here.

All dates are weather permitting.
