City Hall releases policy for filing for Harrisonville Municipal Election

Ballot being placed in ballot box.

As 2018 nears its end, the City of Harrisonville is preparing for the upcoming 2019 Municipal Election.

Before the election can happen, candidates must file to be placed on the ballot.

In order for all those interested in running for a position to be fully aware of the filing process, the City has released its policy for candidate filing.

Candidates will personally be able to line up beginning at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10. No surrogates or other individuals will be allowed to act as a line placeholder for any candidate. Candidates must remain in line to retain their line position and are not allowed to get out of line, up to and including the time when they are escorted into City Hall to officially file for office. City staff will not monitor the line's activity, as it will be based on the "honor system".

Filing will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at City Hall, located at 300 E Pearl Street, and will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15. Applicants will be able to file during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays.

On the first day of filing, candidates will be given numbers corresponding to their place in line when the City Hall doors open on Tuesday morning. Candidates will gather in the council chambers to fill out the candidate required paperwork under the supervision of the City Clerk, or members of his staff team.

Candidate names will be placed on the ballot in the order of the candidate number they were issued on the opening morning or subsequent day in which they choose to file. The lowest issued number in their municipal race will be placed on the ballot first.

Any candidate unable to complete their paperwork will forfeit their candidate number.

Questions asked of the City Clerk will be answered to the entire group, for the benefit of all potential candidates.
