POLICE OFFICER

General Definition of Work

Performs work patrolling the city, responding to calls for service to reduce crime and to enforce all local, state and federal laws and ordinances, investigating criminal disturbances and traffic stops, increasing community safety, preparing reports, maintaining records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned. 

Work is performed under the direction of the Police Lieutenant.

Essential Functions

  • Patrols the City and maintains law and order by responding to 911 calls, calls for service, crime scenes, medical emergencies, in-progress crimes, and motor vehicle accidents.
  • Investigates criminal disturbances and conducts traffic stops; follows up on cases as needed.
  • Collects and processes physical evidence from crime scenes; labels and books evidence; prepares technical reports for use in court; testifies in court as required.
  • Attends on-going training; maintains certifications.
  • Maintains records and files.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is required and less than one year of experience and possession of the minimum certifications are required upon hire or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

  • Completion of Missouri’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Program (POST) upon hire.
  • Possession of Firearms Certification through the MO State Highway Patrol upon hire.
  • Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
  • May require possession of, or ability to obtain, specific licenses and/or certifications depending on departmental assignment.
  • A valid driver's license in the State of Missouri.

FACILITIES CUSTODIAN

General Definition of Work

Performs work monitoring, maintaining, and cleaning the City’s Community Center facilities, City Hall, Electric, Police and CWSS Departments, pool and grounds, sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, maintaining assigned equipment, setting up Community Center rooms, conducting minor repairs on buildings and grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Parks and Facilities Maintenance Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Performs daily cleaning, sanitizing, and disposing of trash in facilities, including restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasium, fitness areas, and pool facilities, replenish paper and soap products as needed. 
  • Set up, arrange, tear down, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, to prepare facilities for events such as banquets, meetings, events, and conferences. 
  • Monitor building safety for secure closing such tasks as locking doors. 
  • Cleans floor using scrubbing machine, pressure washer/sprayer, carpet extractor, vacuum, and floor buffer on a regular basis.   Work with different cleaning chemicals and follow procedures for safe handling and use and wear assigned protective equipment as required.  
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and distributing custodial and recreation supplies to various locations including pool facilities. 
  • Assist with performing minor building repairs and report repairs as needed.
  • Remove snow and ice from entrances of assigned areas, apply salt as necessary. 
  • Must be courteous and helpful to customers, staff and public. 
  • Performs additional duties as required.
  • Follow city and department policies and procedures. 

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required.  

Special Qualifications

  • Obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications from an approved organization within six months of hire.
  • Work independently.
  • A valid driver’s license in the State of Missouri.

JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN

General Definition of Work

Performs work maintaining the City's power system by constructing and maintaining electrical lines and equipment, assessing power interruptions, evaluating problems, and restoring power, and related work as apparent or assigned. 

Work is performed under the direction of the Line Crew Supervisor

Essential Functions

  • Maintains existing electrical lines; repairs broken lines, poles, cross arms, and transformers to maintain service to customers.
  • Builds new lines, including setting poles, stringing wire, and hanging transformers or installing underground services or overhead services. 
  • Installs, maintains, and replaces streetlights and related fixtures; utilizes bucket truck and similar equipment.
  • Maintains substations and checks controls, voltages, and wire console writing to measure proper voltage and amperage for customer requirements.
  • Maintains warehouse and equipment; cleans warehouse and loads/unloads electrical service vehicles to have appropriate materials available.
  • Operates various equipment; operates electrical service vehicles, aerial lift devices, and digger derrick vehicles.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend poles in proper climbing gear to do essential functions as required.  
  • Restores electrical service to residential and commercial customers.
  • Resolves emergency situations after hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Required to travel to other cities for mutual aid for extended periods of time, when needed. 
  • Tree trimming and vegetation maintenance as required. 
  • Assists with utility shut-off, meter reads, and supports City Hall Utility office on-site.  
  • Follows and adheres to APPA safety rules and OSHA regulations, handles Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulated equipment and materials.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s or Technical degree and six or more years of experience in electrical distribution or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Journeyman Lineman Card is required.

Must pass background check, physical testing, and drug screen prior to employment.


Special Qualifications

Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position.

A valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) in the State of Missouri.


Pay range from $28.55 per hour up to $45.68 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.

FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

POSITION SUMMARY: Harrisonville, Missouri is a 4th class city located 30 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri with a population of approximately 10,000. Harrisonville Emergency Services is a department with up-to-date equipment with state-of-the-art EMS equipment. Currently employee’s 21 full time personnel including command staff that performs the challenging work of emergency medical care, fire suppression, fire prevention and rescue. The fire department operates a 24 hour Modified Berkley Schedule. The department operates one ALS engine, and two fully staffed ALS ambulances from one station.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responds to emergency situations and incident to suppress fires, affect rescues/extrications, participated in searches, mitigate hazardous materials and perform other duties as assigned and capable.

• Operate firefighting tools, aerial equipment, emergency medical equipment, extrication and rescue equipment and a variety of related tools and vehicles.

• Provide basic and advanced life support and emergency medical care.

• Participates in on-going technical and physical training to maintain certifications.

• Cleans and performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to department facilities.

• Participates in fire prevention and safety education/promotional events. Conducts station tours and gives presentations and demonstrates the use of the fire suppression and safety equipment.

• Assists in documenting incident and provides incident information to appropriate agencies and supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The city will send selected individuals to Firefighter I & II Training if necessary.

Required Qualifications:

•Possession of a valid state driver’s license

•High school diploma or equivalent.

•Paramedic Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Vocational/technical training in firefighting and emergency medical treatment with two years of firefighting and paramedic experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Possession of EMT-P certification, Firefighter I & II, hazardous materials operation, advanced life support, and basic life support certifications (ACLS, PALS, BTLS, CPR-Health Care Provider).

Starting pay ranges from $51,583.70 to $69,800.

PARK ATTENDANT

General Definition of Work

Under general supervision, this position will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the park, assisting visitors with any questions or concerns, and enforcing park rules and regulations.  The Park Attendant will also be responsible for performing light landscaping duties and ensuring that park equipment is in good condition.  Performs a variety of semi-skilled jobs in ground maintenance, gardening, horticulture, and related work.  

Must be available to work weekends and holidays. 

Work is performed under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor.  

Essential Functions

Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the park by picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, and ensuring that equipment is in good condition.  

Mows grass, trims shrubs and trees.

Cleans buildings and facilities, restrooms, landscape areas, playground equipment, bleachers, picnic tables, and shade structures, and shelters.  

Assist visitors with any questions or concerns and provide information about park activities and events. 

Enforce Park rules and regulations and report any violations to management.

Perform light landscaping duties, such as watering plants and pulling weeds. 

Monitor Park equipment to ensure that it is in good condition and report any damage to management.

Provide excellent customer service to visitors and ensure that they have a positive experience at the park.  

Follow city policies and procedures.

Perform all other duties assigned.

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

LIFEGUARDS - MID-DAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING  IN-DOOR POOL

Mid-Day (12pm to close) 

General Definition of Work

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies.  You must be safety-minded and customer service oriented.  You will work in a fast-paced environment and will help to monitor the pool deck and maintain safety on water slides. 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Aquatics Facilities Manager

 

Essential Functions

  • Opening and closing the pool each day according to scheduled hours. 
  • Supervises swimming activities at the indoor pool and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. 
  • Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies. 
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary. 
  • Evaluate conditions for safety and initiate aquatics emergency action plan as required. 
  • Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed. 
  • Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
  • Must be courteous and helpful to customers, staff, and public.

The City of Harrisonville is currently taking applications for the position of Before and After School Fit Kids Counselor. 

We are looking for applicants that will have the flexibility to work; Morning Shift from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; Evening Shift from 3 p.m./4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This position is weekly, Monday through Friday. 

Job Description: Assists the Recreation Coordinator & Camp Coordinator with youth program supervision. Staff will be expected to monitor youth programming at all times to ensure their safety; provide necessary instructions to implement activities; provide a friendly, caring environment; record any incidents/accidents as needed; provide exceptional customer service to all patrons of the facilities - especially parents of the children; set up and clean up all activities in various locations; provide age appropriate support and guidance to children at all times; incorporate and enforce all Harrisonville Community Center policies, rules, and regulations.

First Aid/CPR certification is preferred, but not required.

FRONT DESK/TOT-WATCH ATTENDANT 

(Must be able to work HCC opening shift starting weekdays at 4:50 a.m.; Sat. at 6:50 a.m. & Sun. at 9:50 a.m.)

Staff will provide customer service to all members and guests at the Harrisonville Community Center; oversee check in of members; assist in operation of photo ID computer to produce and distribute badges; operate cash register; register clients for memberships, classes & programs; answer and transfer phone calls; assist with the upkeep of the front desk as well as the upkeep of the fitness floor.

Must enjoy working with children and be willing to rotate between the front desk and tot-watch.

Position is limited to 25 hours per week at a rate of $12.00 per hour. Hours of operation are M-Thurs. 5:00 a.m. - 9 p.m., Fri. 5:00 a.m. - 8 p.m., Sat. 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sun. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

Must be 16 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license to be eligible to work at the Front Desk. Preference will be given to those individuals with computer experience.
